Submit Request
Before You Start
Please read the points below and also the FAQs. If you have any questions, feel free to email support@biosamplehub.org
Some useful tips
- It is not necessary to give every detail on the request form. The main aim of your request is to begin a discussion with relevant biobanks. You can discuss all the details later.
- When stating the required number of cases, make sure to say if you will accept a smaller number.
- If you ask for different sample types (like tumor tissue and serum), then say whether or not you must have both sample types for every case.
One disease type per request
- Only one specific disease type should be included in each request. So for example, a request can include lung cancer, but it cannot include both lung and kidney cancer. Nor is it possible to request cancers in general.
- This rule simplifies the procurement process and underpins our pricing structure.
Next steps
When you submit your request, the relevant details will be shared with members of Biosample Hub. When biobankers are interested they will message you via this platform. The message will go to your email, but the biobank will not know your email address. It is your choice whether to respond and share your contact details.
FAQs
How many requests can I submit?
Each company can submit up to 10 requests per year
What are my chances of finding a sample provider?
This depends on the nature of your request and questions like:
- How common is the requested disease or disease subtype?
- What quantity of material do you need and how many cases?
- Which information do you require and is it routinely collected by biobanks?
If you want some advice on the feasibility of your request, you are welcome to contact support@biosamplehub.org
How much do samples cost?
Biobanks need to charge a cost recovery fee. The amount varies for different sample types and different biobanks. Here are some examples of biobank tariffs:
How long will sample delivery take?
This varies from biobank to biobank. There may be approvals necessary in addition to the practical work of identifying and processing samples for you. So you need to discuss with the biobanks that contact you about your request. Obviously, if you want a prospective collection, the wait time will be longer and will depend on factors like the rarity of your requested samples.
What clinical data is available?
This varies from biobank to biobank. So you can state the data required in the request form, and/or discuss later with the biobank.
What are the restrictions on sample use?
This varies from biobank to biobank. So you can state your intended use in the request form, and/or discuss later with the biobank.
